Bio

Derrick Jackson enters his first season at the helm for Palo Verde College Women’s Basketball. This is his 20th year of coaching at the College level. From 2018-23 he was the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Lassen College. In his first season there he led the Lady Cougars to a 17-11 record and into the CCCAA State Playoffs, losing a close game to Santa Rosa College 51-49. This past season he led his team to the CCCAA State playoffs after an upset win at Solano College and into the 2 round with a loss to San Francisco City College. Before going to Lassen College, Coach Jackson served as an Associate Head Women’s Basketball at (NAIA) Wiley College in Marshall, Texas.

Prior to arriving at Wiley College, Jackson was the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at (NJCAA) Coastal Bend College in Beeville, Texas from 2015-17. There he still holds the record for most victories in a season. Additionally, his team compiled an overall GPA of 3.75, which ranked them number 3 in the nation academically in the NJCAA.

Jackson started his coaching career at Los Angeles Harbor College as an assistant on the Men’s Basketball Team. During the 2008-09 season he was the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Los Angeles City College guiding his team to a 26-4 record and made the CCCAA State Playoffs. For his efforts he was named Coach of the Year in the always tough South Coast Conference. During the 2009-10 season Coach Jackson was an Assistant Coach at East Los Angeles College. After a year he was named Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Cerro Coso College from 2011-13.  Then, Coach Jackson returned to his home state, where he served as the Head Boys/Girls Basketball and Athletic Director at Howard College/Southwest Collegiate School for the Deaf.

Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Jackson prepped at Kimball High School. He continued his career at NJCAA South Plains College, NAIA Mid America Nazarene University and Black Hills State University. Jackson holds an Associate of Arts degree from Los Angeles Harbor College and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hamilton University.
