Game Recaps 11/19/22
The PVC Men's and Women's basketball team's were in action yesterday to celebrate the 75th anniversary of higher education. Both teams took on Golden West college where the women were defeated 85-58 and the men came out victorious with a 89-83 win.
The women's team was short-handed due to injuries but were able to start strong against a Golden West team that entered the game with only 1 loss on the season. Golden West's depth began to take it's toll on the Pirates in the 3rd quarter where the Golden West lead grew to over 20 points. The Pirates were lead by Amyia Inman and Tarah Campbell who finished with 23 and 14 points respectively. They will be in action following the Thanksgiving break in a home matchup on November28th against LA Trade Tech.
The men's team was able to pull out their first regular season win in a game that was back and forth from start to finish. Going into halftime the Pirates had a 5 point advantage due to strong offensive efforts by Malik Russell and Monshare Shellie, where they combined for 22 points. The Pirates came out strong to start the second half where they extended their lead 10 points thanks to their lockdown defense and 3-point shooting. Golden West came storming late in the game to tie the game with less than a minute reamaining. The Pirates were able to knock down critical free throws to seal their first regular season win with an 89-83 final score. The men's team will be in action following Thanksgiving break where they host LA Trade Tech on November 28th.
